The Alaska summit between the United States and Russia concluded on Friday with a brief press conference featuring President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin. While initial reports had indicated that the meeting would be followed by a formal lunch with dignitaries from both nations, The Wall Street Journal later confirmed that the lunch had been unexpectedly cancelled.

Shortly after both leaders exited the stage following their public remarks, it was reported that President Trump was heading directly back to the White House, bypassing any additional engagements. The sudden change in schedule raised speculation about whether the talks had fallen short of expectations. President Putin departed soon after, returning to Moscow, with Trump’s presidential aircraft following its course back to Washington.

The abrupt cancellation prompted media speculation, with some analysts suggesting it may reflect Trump’s dissatisfaction with how the summit unfolded. However, the Kremlin later released behind-the-scenes footage showing a relaxed interaction between the two leaders. In the clip, Trump and Putin are seen laughing and engaging in casual conversation, seemingly contradicting earlier speculation of any discord.

During the press conference itself, neither leader took questions from the media. In their brief statements, both Trump and Putin expressed optimism but confirmed that no ceasefire deal had been finalised. Trump acknowledged ongoing disagreements but noted that the summit had led to some progress, leaving the door open for continued dialogue in the future.
