Ajman has introduced advanced smart speed limiters in taxis and limousines, making it the first emirate in the UAE to implement such a system. The devices automatically adjust a vehicle’s speed based on its real-time location and local speed limits, aiming to reduce risky driving and improve passenger safety.

How the system works

The smart devices identify the vehicle’s location in real time, compare it with permitted speed limits, and synchronise the speed automatically. Geographic range data is stored with high accuracy, and the system continuously updates to ensure compliance across different zones. sKey features

  • Integrated smart mapping system that identifies permitted speeds for each area
  • Direct synchronisation with the vehicle’s electronic driving system for precise control
  • Instant and continuous data updates to maintain adherence to speed limits
  • Designed to enhance passenger and driver safety and reduce hazardous road behaviour

Ajman speed limits The system adjusts to varying road limits across the emirate:

  • 120 kmph: Shaikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road
  • 100 kmph: Alamanama Street, Masfoot Street
  • 80 kmph: Shaikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Rd (industrial & residential), Shaikh Maktoum St (Hamidiya), Zayed Al Helio St, Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed St, Al Ittihad St
  • 70 kmph: Shaikh Ammar Bin Humaid St – Al Muwaihat, Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed St – Port
  • 60 kmph: Gulfa St, Al Zorah St – Marina, University St, Sheikh Rashid Bin Abdulaziz St, New Industrial
  • 50 kmph: Rashid Bin Humaid Street, Al Salam Street, Humaid Bin Rashid Street, Al Kuwait Street

Phased rollout The Ajman Transport Authority is implementing the system in phases, monitoring performance to ensure long-term success. The initiative marks a milestone in the emirate’s broader strategy to use technology to improve road safety and transport efficiency.
