‘Thamma’ FIRST review: Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui's film called ‘well-packaged entertainer’

Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s highly anticipated horror comedy ‘Thamma’ is all set to hit the cinemas on 21 October 2025. As the big Diwali release, expectations from the film are sky-high. The much-awaited supernatural comedy has been creating buzz for weeks, and now, the first review is out, and it promises that audiences can truly “expect the unexpected.”

Taran Adarsh gives four-star rating to ‘Thamma’

Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh recently watched ‘Thamma’ and shared his thoughts on X. Giving it four stars, he wrote, “#MaddockFilms delivers yet another winner… A delicious cocktail of humour, supernatural, and romance… Takes a completely uncharted path as far as the plot goes… EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED!”

Ayushmann & Rashmika’s ‘Thamma’ Becomes India’s Most Expensive Horror-Comedy Ever

His review suggests that ‘Thamma’ is not your usual horror-comedy but one with a twisty, fresh approach that keeps audiences guessing.

Director Aditya Sarpotdar receives strong appreciation

Taran Adarsh also praised director Aditya Sarpotdar for once again hitting the right notes after ‘Munjya’. He wrote, “Director #AdityaSarpotdar – who impressed with #Munjya – once again hits the right notes… The plot is entirely novel for #Hindi movie audiences, and that is its biggest strength… The film draws inspiration from #Indian folklore, and the narrative remains engaging throughout – keeping you hooked, entertained, and guessing right until the finale. ”

Writing, dialogues and music receive major praise

The critic further added that the film’s witty dialogues and unexpected twists make it even more enjoyable. He went on to explain,“Besides the razor-sharp writing, the witty one-liners and clever twists are a major plus. The music is another strong point… #TumMereNaHuye, #PoisonBaby, and #DilbarKiAankhonKa are already popular and enhance the narrative beautifully… Special mention must be made of the background score – it’s electrifying.” It looks like ‘Thamma’ has managed to balance both emotion and energy.

Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna shine bright

Praising the lead pair, Taran Adarsh wrote, “#AyushmannKhurrana is in top form… Effortlessly switches between fear and fun, he anchors the film with a pitch-perfect performance… #RashmikaMandanna is a complete revelation… She gets one of the most challenging roles of her career – and she sparkles.”

Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Paresh Rawal impress

Highlighting how Nawazuddin Siddiqui is wildly entertaining and will be loved by the masses. He noted that the actor’s eccentric and unpredictable act turns several scenes into absolute gems. He also mentioned that Paresh Rawal delivers yet another knockout performance, with his impeccable timing elevating every sequence he appears in.

A surprise cameo?

‘Thamma’ called a well-packaged entertainer

Finally, Adarsh summed up his review with high praise. “⭐️ Final word? #Thamma is a well-packaged entertainer… #Maddock’s winning streak in horror-comedy space continues!”
