Dineout founders raise $4.5 million for UK-India medical travel startup

Dineout founders Ankit Mehrotra and Sahil Jain have raised USD 4.5 million in Seed funding for their new venture, The Medical Travel Company — a UK and India-based startup designed to transform the fragmented medical tourism sector. The funding round was led by Nexus Venture Partners with participation from Kriscore Capital and international cricketers Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, and KL Rahul, co-founders of athlete-led investment collective 4CAST.

The Medical Travel Company seeks to address inefficiencies in the USD 100 billion global medical tourism market, beginning with the UK. The company connects patients waiting for elective procedures to accredited Indian hospitals offering faster, affordable, and high-quality treatment.

The funding will be used to scale operations, strengthen digital patient management systems, and expand partnerships with hospitals across India. Initially targeting the UK, the company plans to extend its model to other markets, including the US, Canada, Australia, and Europe within the next four years.

As of June 2025, around 7.7 million people in the UK are on waiting lists for elective treatments across orthopaedics, dental, IVF, and other specialties. With rising costs and long delays, an estimated 500,000 UK residents travel abroad each year for medical care. The Medical Travel Company’s model aims to simplify this experience by offering trusted UK medical oversight, internationally accredited doctors, post-surgery insurance valid in the UK, and concierge-style support throughout the patient journey.

“Medical tourism is a broken industry: patients face fragmented care, hidden costs, and zero support when they return home,” said Sahil Jain, Co-Founder and CEO, The Medical Travel Company. “We ensure true continuity of care across borders, with UK doctors involved before, during, and after treatment. For us, it’s not medical tourism — it’s healthcare certainty.”

Ankit Mehrotra, Co-Founder, The Medical Travel Company, added, “We’re not just disrupting medical tourism; we’re rebuilding it. With our Dineout experience in scaling consumer trust, we’re building the infrastructure for healthcare without borders.”

Pratik Poddar, Partner at Nexus Venture Partners, said, “The medical tourism market holds immense untapped value, and The Medical Travel Company’s full-stack model is the key to unlocking it. India has long been a medical frontier, and this platform makes its excellence globally accessible.”

Nilesh Balakrishnan, Managing Partner, Kriscore Capital, added, “Ankit and Sahil are addressing one of the most urgent global healthcare challenges while showcasing India’s capabilities on the world stage.”

Ben Stokes, founder of 4CAST and England Test captain, commented, “We are delighted to invest in The Medical Travel Company. This partnership reflects our aim to back visionary founders creating meaningful impact.” KL Rahul, Co-founder of 4CAST, added, “Having grown up in India, I’ve witnessed the nation’s healthcare progress firsthand. We are excited to support The Medical Travel Company’s mission to build better access for patients worldwide.”

Other investors include Sriharsha Majety (Swiggy), Abhishek Goyal (Tracxn), Dr Ritesh Malik (Innov8), Manish Vij (Smile Group), Arjun Vaidya (Dr Vaidya’s and V3 Ventures), 1947 Rise Fund, and Peercheque.
