Trump’s Gaza ceasefire plan prompts key concessions from Hamas in Egypt talks, with UN aid teams ready to deliver supplies if approved

US President Donald Trump on Monday said Hamas has been making important concessions during ongoing talks in Egypt over his Gaza ceasefire plan.
“I think Hamas has been agreeing to things that are very important,” Trump told CNN at the Oval office. He further said “if certain things aren’t met? We’re not going to do it, but I think we’re doing very well. I really think we will get a deal done.”

Meanwhile, the United Nations aid teams in Gaza have said that they are “ready to go” to deliver thousands of metric tonnes of supplies if Trump’s ceasefire plan is approved.
The UN is “ready to go as soon as we get the green light … There are thousands of metric tonnes in the pipeline of goods ready to enter,” UN Secretary General spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said in a media briefing in New York Monday.
CNN quoted UN’s Relief Chief as saying that he had allocated $9 million toward keeping the war-torn territory’s hospitals, water systems, bakeries and other critical services operating.
“If a ceasefire takes effect and we’re allowed access at scale, we’ll be ready to reach even more people – fast,” Tom Fletcher, UN Emergency Relief Coordinator, posted on X.
Delegations from Hamas and Israel began indirect talks on Monday in the Egyptian resort town of Sharm El-Sheikh, aimed at ending the nearly two-year war in Gaza, Egyptian state-linked media reported.
According to Al-Qahera News, which is close to Egypt’s intelligence services, the discussions are focused on preparing the ground for a potential exchange of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza and Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails. The talks are being held behind closed doors, with Egyptian and Qatari mediators shuttling between the two sides.
The discussions are based on a proposal from US President Donald Trump to halt hostilities and initiate a broader peace process. Trump’s plan includes the disarmament of Hamas and a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, in return for the release of hostages and political transition in the territory.
Hamas’s delegation is being led by senior negotiator Khalil al-Hayya, who recently survived an Israeli strike in Doha. He met with Egyptian intelligence officials before the negotiations began, according to an Egyptian security source.
This round of talks comes on the eve of the second anniversary of Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack, which triggered the war. A Palestinian source close to Hamas said the negotiations “may last for several days” and warned they will be “difficult and complex”, citing Israeli intentions to continue military operations.
