US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Sunday (local time) hailed the coalition of Arab nations brought together by President Donald Trump, crediting it for helping move towards an end to the ongoing Gaza conflict. Taking to X, Rubio shared a post saying the alliance was not formed for political gain but to take on a group he described as terrorists.

“We’re not dealing with a political movement, we’re dealing with killers, savages, and terrorists,” he wrote. “But what gives us hope is the coalition US President Donald Trump built that is pushing in the same direction with us to get the hostages released and the conflict resolved.”

Rubio’s remarks came shortly after President Trump announced that talks between Hamas and several countries around the world, including Arab and Muslim nations, had made “very successful and rapid progress.”

On Truth Social, Trump said that discussions over the weekend had been “very positive,” adding that the negotiations were focused not just on releasing hostages but on achieving lasting peace in the Middle East. “There have been very positive discussions with Hamas, and countries from all over the world (Arab, Muslim, and everyone else) this weekend, to release the hostages, end the war in Gaza but, more importantly, finally have long sought PEACE in the Middle East,” Trump said.

He also revealed that technical teams will meet in Egypt on Monday to finalise details of the agreement. “I am told that the first phase should be completed this week, and I am asking everyone to MOVE FAST,” he added. “TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE OR MASSIVE BLOODSHED WILL FOLLOW — SOMETHING THAT NOBODY WANTS TO SEE!”

According to CNN, Israel’s coordinator for hostage affairs said that the country would continue to negotiate “with full commitment and determination” to secure the safe release of all captives.

President Trump also touched on the subject during a US Navy 250th anniversary event, where he addressed service members and military leaders. Speaking about his diplomatic efforts, he said, “We’re working on solving global conflicts, including one that’s taken 3,000 years. And we’re pretty close, but I don’t want to talk about it until it’s done.”

He added, “We don’t want to send you into battle unless it’s necessary, right? We’re putting out a lot of fires.”

Trump’s comments mark a rare note of optimism amid months of deadly violence in Gaza, with Washington now positioning itself at the centre of a global diplomatic push for peace.
