Hamas and Israel will hold indirect talks in Cairo on Sunday and Monday aimed at securing the release of hostages and detainees, Egyptian state-linked media reported. According to Al-Qahera News, delegations from both sides “have begun moving to launch talks in Cairo tomorrow and the day after, to discuss arranging the ground conditions for the exchange of all detainees and prisoners, in accordance with Donald Trump’s proposal.”

The talks come as US President Donald Trump praised Israel for temporarily halting its bombing operations in Gaza, urging both sides to finalise a hostage release and peace agreement.

“I appreciate that Israel has temporarily stopped the bombing in order to give the Hostage release and Peace Deal a chance to be completed. Hamas must move quickly, or else all bets will be off. I will not tolerate delay, which many think will happen, or any outcome where Gaza poses a threat again. Let’s get this done, FAST. Everyone will be treated fairly!” Donald Trump said in a post on his social media platform Truth Social.

Hamas announced that it had agreed to release all Israeli hostages- alive or dead- and expressed readiness to negotiate through mediators based on Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan.

“President Trump’s statements on the immediate cessation of Israeli bombings in the Gaza Strip are encouraging,” Hamas spokesman Taher al-Nunu told AFP, adding, “Hamas is ready to immediately begin negotiations to achieve a prisoner exchange, end the war and ensure the withdrawal of the (Israeli) army from the Gaza Strip.”

Egypt, which has long acted as a key mediator between Israel and Hamas, is expected to host the talks amid a temporary ceasefire in Gaza brokered earlier this week.
