11 seconds, 3 shots: Meerut man gunned dead on camera by friend; killers upload chilling video

Assailant assailant taking an aim at Adil (X)

NEW DELHI: A chilling 11-second video showing a man being shot dead in broad daylight has gone viral on social media, triggering panic in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district and prompting a police investigation. The video, reportedly filmed by one of the assailants, shows the victim lying on the ground as another man fires three bullets into his chest at close range. The incident is believed to have taken place near a tubewell in the forested area of Narhada village, under Lohiannagar police station, according to news agency PTI. Police identified the deceased as Adil alias Rehan (25), a clothes seller and resident of Radhna Wali Gali in the Lisari Gate area. The assailant kept firing until a voice in the background of the video could be heard saying “drop it” just before the attackers fled the scene. Adil’s body was recovered on Wednesday morning, hours after the killing, police said.According to Meerut SSP Vipin Tanda, Adil was allegedly shot dead by a friend, while another accomplice filmed the act. “An FIR has been registered, and a probe is underway. We are identifying the suspects and action will be taken as per law,” a police officer said. He added, “the motive behind the incident and the making it viral is also being probed.”Investigators are still working to establish whether he was alive at the time the video was recorded. The video’s circulation on social media has raised questions over public safety and the use of digital platforms to broadcast violent crimes. Police are also examining how and when the video was uploaded and shared online.
