US President Donald Trump said that Hamas has three to four days to respond to a new 20-point proposal that he claims could bring “an immediate end” to the Gaza war if both sides agree. The comment came a day after Donald Trump unveiled a roadmap to end Israel-Hamas war in Washington following talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

What Israel Has Said On The Proposal?

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu welcomed the framework but warned that Israel would “finish the job” militarily if Hamas rejects or violates it. Hamas has not yet responded, and Donald Trump’s three-to-four-day deadline is being closely watched in regional capitals as Arab mediators, including Egypt and Qatar, are relaying the details to Hamas negotiators.

What The Proposal Seeks?

Under the framework, hostilities would halt as soon as both Israel and Hamas accept the deal. Israeli forces would pull back to an agreed line inside Gaza while all aerial and ground operations would freeze. Within 72 hours, Hamas would be required to release all hostages- both living and deceased- in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, including women, children, and detainees held since October 7, 2023.

The plan bars Hamas from holding any role in Gaza’s future governance. Fighters who disarm may remain under conditional amnesty, while others would be offered safe passage into exile. Oversight of disarmament would rest with Israel, the US and regional guarantors, with independent monitors ensuring that rocket sites, tunnels and workshops are dismantled.

The roadmap envisions Gaza being administered by a technocratic Palestinian committee for day-to-day affairs, overseen by an international “Board of Peace” chaired by Donald Trump. Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair has been named a member of this board which will coordinate reconstruction and aid.

Humanitarian relief- food, medicine, fuel, and rebuilding materials- is to resume immediately through neutral agencies such as the UN and Red Crescent. Longer term, the plan links aid to Trump’s proposed “economic development initiative” aimed at turning Gaza into a hub of investment and jobs.
