Varun, Janhvi on Kantara Vs Sunny Sanskari clash – EXCLUSIVE

EXCLUSIVE! Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor break silence on 'Kantara: Chapter 1' clash with 'Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari': 'We are not under the delusion that..'

Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor’s ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’ is set to release on October 2. It’s a big holiday with Dussehra and Gandhi Jayanti. While there’s been a good buzz surrounding the film with the songs and trailer making people look forward to the film, it is set to clash with Rishabh Shetty’s ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’. This clearly will also cause a lot of dilemma about exhibitors, especially for single screens to give enough shows for both the movies. In a recent interview with Etimes, when Varun Dhawan, director Shashank Khaitan and Janhvi Kapoor spoke about the film, here’s what they had to say if the clash could be avoided. The ‘Badlapur’ actor reacted and said, “Our date which we were coming on, got moved due to many reasons. We were trying to get the best film we could. We made our best film. In a line, ‘Param Sundari’, ‘Baaghi 4’, ‘Jolly LLB3’, then ‘Conjuring’, did well. We want a run of at least 2-3 weeks. Another good period for us to release would have been Diwali. But I’m very good friends with Dinoo (Dinesh Vijan) and Amar Kaushik. I’ve done ‘Bhediya’ and ‘Badlapur’ with them. Karan (Johar) is close friends with them. And you don’t want to go there, if someone is your friend.” He further added, “Now this date is good with Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra. Also, this is not my decision. It’s the production’s decision. But the date is so big that they said chalo, we will have enough space. Also, we are not a big film like ‘Kantaara’. Nor are we under the delusion of that.”Director Shashank Khaitan added, “Also, we are making so many films. How is it possible to release only one film in one week. With that philosophy, we would only be able to release only 52 movies a year.” When reminded of the fact that this is why, Salman Khan and recently even Aamir Khan has expressed that there can be more theatres in the country, the director said, “We also have to understand from a simple perspective that we don’t need to build theatres but what price points they would come up at. Also, will they help you get newer people to the theatres.” Varun recalled the earlier clashes when both the movies have done well. “‘Gadar’ and ‘Lagaan’ released together, ‘Gadar 2’ and ‘OMG 2’ released together. Logon ko acchi film doge toh they will watch. We are not that big a size as ‘Kantaara’, so, we don’t even need to do that kind of business. That’s another kind of a film, we are proud of it. We should support each other. Janhvi echoed Varun’s sentiments and said, “It should be like ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’. Like he said, it’s a much bigger film at a bigger budget and we are just a family entertainer.”
