In 1987, Deepa tied the knot with Mahesh Manjrekar. They had been friends since their college days. The couple had two children, a daughter named Ashwami, born on August 29, 1988, and a son named Satya. However, their marriage faced difficulties, leading to their separation and a divorce in 1995.

Children’s career and Deepa Mehta’s saree brand

Ashwami and Satya stayed with their father, Mahesh, and pursued acting. Meanwhile, Deepa went on to build a successful career as a costume designer. On August 21, 2013, she launched her saree brand, Queen of Hearts by Deepa Mehta, which became popular in both Marathi and Bollywood film circles. Ashwami frequently modeled for her mother’s saree collection.
