Goddess Kalaratri represents the most powerful and ferocious form of Maa Durga.
According to mythology, Maa Parvati shed her golden outer skin to take on this form and defeat the demons Shumbha, Nishumbha, Chanda, Munda and Raktabeej. She is depicted with dark black hair, three eyes and four hands. Her right hands are in Abhaya and Varada mudras, while her left hands hold a sword and an iron hook. Maa Kalaratri’s Vahan (or carrier), which symbolises humility and endurance.
Devotees believe worshipping her brings protection, courage and spiritual strength.
