Navratri Day 7 Puja Vidhi And Aarti: The nine-day Hindu festival of Navratri begins on September 22 this year. The festival is dedicated to Goddess Durga and her nine forms, collectively known as the Navadurga. Each day of Navratri is dedicated to a particular form of the goddess.

Each day of Navratri is marked by different rituals, prayers and fasting dedicated to a specific form of Goddess Durga. This year, the festivities will come to an end on October 2 with Dussehra or Vijaya Dashami.

On the seventh day of Navratri, devotees worship Goddess Kalaratri, a fierce form of Maa Durga. She is revered for her protective qualities. She is believed to guard her followers from negative forces and protect them against all evil forces. Orange is the colour of the day.

Navratri 2025 Day 7: Worshipping Goddess Kalaratri

Goddess Kalaratri represents the most powerful and ferocious form of Maa Durga.

According to mythology, Maa Parvati shed her golden outer skin to take on this form and defeat the demons Shumbha, Nishumbha, Chanda, Munda and Raktabeej. She is depicted with dark black hair, three eyes and four hands. Her right hands are in Abhaya and Varada mudras, while her left hands hold a sword and an iron hook.  Maa Kalaratri’s Vahan (or carrier), which symbolises humility and endurance.

Devotees believe worshipping her brings protection, courage and spiritual strength.

1. On this day, devotees wake up early, take a holy bath and wear clean clothes.
2. The puja is performed using rice, flowers, incense sticks, dry fruits, panchamrita, perfumed water and special offerings.
3. Night-blooming jasmine, believed to be Goddess Kalaratri’s favourite flower, is also offered.
4. Devotees may include Navagraha pujas, which are considered especially auspicious on this day.
5. It’s believed that Maa Kalaratri is the presiding deity for planet Shani.

खड्ग खप्पर रखने वाली। दुष्टों का लहू चखने वाली॥

कलकत्ता स्थान तुम्हारा। सब जगह देखूँ तेरा नजारा॥

सभी देवता सब नर-नारी। गावें स्तुति सभी तुम्हारी॥

रक्तदन्ता और अन्नपूर्णा। कृपा करे तो कोई भी दुःख ना॥
