Diljit Dosanjh nominated for Best Actor at International Emmy Awards 2025 for Amar Singh Chamkila: 'It’s all because of Imtiaz Ali'

Diljit Dosanjh has earned a nomination for the ‘Best Performance by an Actor’ award at the prestigious International Emmy Awards 2025. The nomination comes for his portrayal of legendary Punjabi singer Chamkila in the Netflix biographical drama Amar Singh Chamkila.Responding to the nomination, Diljit took to Instagram Stories, writing, “It’s all because of Imtiaz Ali sir @netflix_in.”

Bringing Chamkila to life

Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the film traces Chamkila’s journey from a Dalit Sikh family in Punjab to becoming a musical icon known for his bold lyrics and untimely death. Released on Netflix on April 12, 2024, the drama explores his rise from factory work dissatisfaction to superstardom, capturing both his controversial songs and tragic assassination at 27.Diljit’s performance has been widely acclaimed for capturing Chamkila’s charisma, complexity, and raw energy. The film also stars Parineeti Chopra as Amarjot, Chamkila’s second wife, and features a soundtrack composed by A.R. Rahman.

A strong lineup at the Emmys

This year, Diljit competes against actors including David Mitchell, Oriol Pla, and Diego Vasquez, making the category one of the most anticipated. His nomination signals growing international recognition for Indian cinema and highlights how regional stories are resonating with global audiences.

Recent and upcoming projects

Recently, Diljit was seen in Sardaar Ji 3, directed by Amar Hundal, alongside Neeru Bajwa, Gulshan Grover, and Sapna Pabbi. The film released overseas on June 27. Looking ahead, Diljit is reportedly set to reunite with Imtiaz Ali for an untitled period drama, set in the 1940s during India’s partition. Sharvari and Vedang Raina are also said to be part of the project.
