Who was Dallas shooter Joshua Jahn, who left anti-ICE message in bullet? A registered independent with criminal record

Texas ICE shooter has been identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn.

The sniper who killed at least two detainees at an ICE field office in Dallas Wednesday morning has been identified as Joshua Jahn, 29. Jahn allegedly shot himself after opening fire that randomly killed two detainees and injured one. Law enforcement officials said bullets recovered near the shooter’s body had “anti-ICE messages” scrawled on them.

Didn’t know he had strong feelings against ICE, says brother

In 2016, Joshua Jahn was charged in Texas with delivering marijuana in an amount greater than ¼ ounce but less than 5 pounds, which is a felony. He pleaded guilty, records show. He was a registered independent and last voted in November 2024, according to public records.Jahn has recently been associated with an address in Oklahoma, with previous residences listed in Texas, according to records.State criminal records describe Jahn as a male with brown hair and brown eyes, standing 6 feet tall and weighing 210 pounds. The records also stated he was born in Texas. Noah Jahn, Joshua’s older brother said he did not know Joshua had strong feelings about ICE. Noah described his brother as “unique” without elaborating. But he said Joshua was not one he would have ever thought would be involved in a politically motivated shooting. “I didn’t think he was politically interested,” Noah Jahn said. “He wasn’t interested in politics on either side as far as I knew.”

Parents owned a rifle

The Jahn siblings grew up in Allen, Texas, where they participated in the Boy Scouts. Noah said his brother had done coding work but was currently unemployed and was planning to move onto their parents’ property in Oklahoma.Noah Jahn said his parents owned a rifle, and Joshua knew how to use it. But “he’s not a marksman, that’s for sure,” Noah said. “He would not be able to make any shots like that.” Noah said he last saw his brother two weeks ago at his parents’ house, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
