Ukrainians are “peaceful people” even in the midst of war, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told the United Nations General Assembly, as he accused Russia of refusing to stop its assault and of abducting “thousands” of Ukrainian children.

“There is no ceasefire because Russia refuses,” Zelenskyy said, asking the international community, “How long will it take to bring them home?”

The Ukrainian leader said Russian forces have continued shelling, even near nuclear facilities, warning that international institutions have proved “too weak” to halt the “madness”.

Zelenskyy also cautioned that Russian aggression extended beyond Ukraine’s borders, pointing to repeated attacks on Polish and Estonian airspace. He noted that 19 Russian drones had recently entered Poland, of which only four were shot down and that Estonia had to convene its first UN Security Council meeting after Russian strikes.

“Even being part of a long-standing military alliance [NATO] doesn’t automatically mean you’re safe,” he said, urging stronger collective measures.

The Ukrainian President further highlighted the vulnerability of Moldova, saying it remains under threat from Russian influence and warned that the global response so far had been inadequate.
