‘Trump is wrong’: London mayor responds to US prez's 'terrible mayor' remark; terms him 'misogynistic & Islamophobic'

London mayor Sadiq Khan has hit back at US President Donald Trump’s fiery attacks, calling him “sexist”, “misogynist” and “islamophobic.” Speaking in an interview with Sky News, Khan said, “I think people are wondering what it is about this Muslim mayor who leads a liberal, multicultural, progressive, successful city that means, I appear to be living rent-free, inside Donald Trump’s head.”The mayor did not hold back when asked if Trump’s comments were Islamophobic, “listen, when people say things, when people behave in a certain way, you’ve got to believe them. I think President Trump has shown he is racist, he is sexist, he is misogynistic, and he’s Islamophobic.”A day earlier, the US president also called Khan a “terrible mayor”, a claim the London leader firmly rejected. “Well, listen, I’m just thankful that we have record numbers of Americans coming to London. Since records began, there’s only been one period where more Americans have visited,” Khan said, adding, “there must be a reason for that.” The interviewer raised concerns about the UK government’s close ties with Trump. Khan acknowledged the benefits of London’s relationship with the US but emphasised accountability.“I think one of the advantages of having a special relationship with the USA is obviously when it comes to trade, when it comes to military alliances, when it comes to other areas where we work close together. But it should also mean you’ve got the confidence to call them out when they’re wrong.”The London mayor further added thinking that “President Trump is wrong in many, many ways.”The comments come after Trump addressed the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, where he accused Khan of trying to impose Sharia law in London. Trump claimed, “I look at London, where you have a terrible mayor, terrible terrible mayor, and it’s been so changed, so changed. Now they want to go to Sharia law, but you’re in a different country.”He also warned that “both their immigration and suicidal energy ideas will be the death of western Europe if something is not done immediately. This cannot be sustained.”
