Amrita recalls receiving NRI marriage proposals after Vivah

Amrita Rao recalls receiving NRI marriage proposals, love letters written in blood after Vivah: 'But I was in a lonely space'

After Vivah (2006) became a massive hit, Amrita Rao’s charm and innocence made her a household name. But fame came with its own pressures. In a recent conversation with Ranveer Allahbadia, she revealed the intense attention she received from fans, including numerous unsolicited marriage proposals.Amrita shared that NRI fans would send proposals along with family photos, often posing next to their cars and dogs, asking her to marry them. “And not just one or two… I got many! I used to laugh and wonder, ‘Kya log hain yeh!’ Some even wrote letters. Once, I received a letter written in blood, and that was very scary. There was this guy who would stand at the telephone booth outside my house, and my mom or dad would have to pick up the phone. It got a little much,” she recalled.

Creative struggles behind the spotlight

Yet, despite the adulation and commercial success, Amrita admitted she often felt creatively stuck. The kind of roles she wanted to do were not coming her way, and offers frequently came with conditions she didn’t want to compromise on. This made her retreat from the industry’s social circuit and focus solely on her work.“I met my husband (RJ Anmol) when I was at a very critical point in my life. Even with all the superhit films and love from the audience, I felt stuck. The kind of films I wanted to do weren’t coming to me. The offers were big but came with conditions like, ‘There’s a kissing scene,’ and I would think, ‘Why do I only get offers with a glitch?’ People would say all kinds of things to demotivate me. I didn’t want to attend parties, award shows or be seen. I just wanted to do my work and come home. I was in a lonely space,” she revealed, describing how this phase left her feeling artistically and emotionally isolated.

Finding grounding with RJ Anmol

During this challenging period, Amrita met RJ Anmol, who later became her husband. Their relationship helped her navigate both personal and professional struggles. After seven years of dating, the couple married on May 15, 2016, in a private ceremony in Mumbai and welcomed their son, Veer, on November 1, 2020.

Return to the big screen

After a break from mainstream cinema, Amrita Rao makes her comeback with Jolly LLB 3, reprising her role as Sandhya, Arshad Warsi’s character’s wife from the original Jolly LLB (2013). The film marks her return after Thackeray (2019), giving her an opportunity to reconnect with audiences while balancing personal and professional growth. Go to Source
