SP Balasubrahmanyam honoured with statue in Kerala: Late singer's son SPB Charan says 'Some voices become eternal'

The legendary playback singer S. P. Balasubrahmanyam passed away in 2020, but his voice has not been silenced in the hearts of millions even after so long. A great singer with a great voice, S.P. Balasubrahmanyam sang 40,000 songs in different languages, including Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi. His great contribution to Indian music earned him many awards, including 6 National Awards and various state awards. To celebrate his legacy, statues and memorials have been established in different places. Recently, another statue of the legendary singer was unveiled in Kerala, adding to the tributes already created in his hometown and other cities.Palakkad memorial event sees emotional tribute from music legendsThe latest statue of SP Balasubrahmanyam was unveiled in Palakkad at the Pattathirippadu Memorial inside the medical college campus. The statue was installed through the joint efforts of the Malayalam playback singers’ association SAMAM and the Swaralaya cultural organisation. The 10-foot statue was unveiled by Oscar-winning composer M. M. Keeravani. The event included many celebrated singers, such as Hariharan, K. S. Chithra, Sujatha Mohan, Unni Menon, Mano, Vijay Yesudas, and others. Thousands of fans gathered at the venue, making it a memorable musical tribute to the legendary voice.SPB Charan shares emotional note after father’s statue unveilingActor, producer, and singer S. P. B. Charan, the son of SP Balasubrahmanyam, shared an emotional note after attending the event. Expressing his gratitude, he wrote, “Legends came together… for one legend. Appa’s statue unveiling & SPB Memorial inauguration in Palakkad — a moment we will cherish forever. ‘Some voices never fade… they become eternal.’ Yesterday was not just an event… it was a moment our family will carry forever.” His heartfelt message reflected the pride and emotion felt by the family and fans who gathered to celebrate the singer’s legacy.Charan thanks artists and organisers for honouring SPB’s legacySPB Charan also spoke about how touching it was to see so many artists and fans come together for his father. He wrote, “In Palakkad, Appa’s statue was unveiled by Padma Shri M M Keeravani, and the SPB Memorial Park was inaugurated by Padma Bhushan K S Chithra and Padma Shri Hariharan. Seeing thousands gather with love, respect, and emotion… it truly felt like Appa is still living through every heart he touched.” He further thanked the organisers and singers who participated in the event, especially Vijay Yesudas, for bringing everyone together.
