Music composer Daboo Malik recently opened up about an incident at a YRF event where he encountered unprofessional behaviour from a cameraman. What could have escalated into a heated confrontation instead became a lesson in restraint for him. He emphasized the importance of self-control in tense situations, which he is also teaching his son Amaal Mallik.
‘Don’t you dare get into this’
Recalling the episode in an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Daboo explained that while a team was shooting interviews, the cameraman and crew spoke abusively to him. “I just raised my hand and told them, ‘Don’t you dare get into this.’ I apologized, but they continued being offensive,” he shared.
On choosing dignity over anger
Daboo revealed that his family background and values influenced his response. “If I had reacted in anger, it wouldn’t have made me different from them. At that moment, it was about respecting my father, my family, and the values I uphold,” he said. He stressed that maintaining composure, even when provoked, is crucial, as it prevents unnecessary negativity and sets an example of patience and grace for younger generations in the industry.
Resolution and perspective
The clash eventually ended on a reconciliatory note when the cameraman later apologized. Daboo explained, “When they realized who I was and my family background, they came forward to apologize. I told them I was fine, that I understood they were doing their job, and chose not to hold a grudge.”He added that such experiences are reminders to maintain perspective, respect others, and rise above negativity.
