  • ¾ cup fresh coconut
  • 2 tablespoons roasted chana dal
  • ½ cup cumin seeds

  • 1-2 green chillies
  • 1 garlic clove
  • Lemon juice or tamarind (optional) to taste
  • ¼ cup water

For tempering:

  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • ½ teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 red chilli
  • A pinch of urad dal
  • 5-6 curry leaves
  • A pinch of asafoetida

  1. Start by blending the coconut, roasted chana dal, cumin seeds, green chillies, garlic, salt, and water until smooth.
  2. For a slight tang, add a bit of tamarind or lemon juice. Your basic sweet coconut chutney is now ready.
  3. To enhance the flavour, heat oil in a small pan and add mustard seeds.
  4. Once they splutter, add red chilli, urad dal, curry leaves, and asafoetida.
  5. Sauté briefly and pour the tempering over the chutney.
