First statement from event manager

Zubeen Garg’s event manager, Shyamkanu Mahanta, and his team released their first statement following the singer’s death. They confirmed that the iconic singer passed away at Singapore General Hospital around 2:30 p.m. Zubeen was scheduled to perform at a festival on September 20, 2025.The statement read, ‘With profound grief, we share the heartbreaking news that our beloved icon, Zubeen Garg, passed away today at Singapore General Hospital around 2:30 PM. Zubeen had arrived in Singapore just the day before yesterday. He was scheduled to be with us at the festival tomorrow, meeting and interacting with people. Earlier today, our entire team was engaged in a business meeting with senior Singaporean industrialists and policymakers at the Shangri-La Hotel to facilitate investments in Northeast India. ‘

Accident on a yacht trip

The event manager also addressed the tragic incident, saying that they were informed by Zubeen’s manager that the singer had met with an accident. The statement revealed that Zubeen was on a yacht trip, which they had no prior knowledge of.Manager said, ‘During the meeting, we received a call from Zubeen’s manager informing us that he had met with an accident and had been rushed to Singapore General Hospital. We later learned that a few members of the local Assamese community had taken him on a yacht visit, of which we had no prior knowledge.’He said they rushed to the hospital and are coordinating with the High Commission to complete the necessary procedures. He described Zubeen’s death as a monumental loss, adding that no words could truly express the grief.The singer, beloved for his music, tragically passed away in a scuba diving accident in Singapore. Reports say he fell into the sea while diving and was rescued, then rushed to the hospital. Despite the medical team’s efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.

Zubeen Garg began singing at the age of three. His first album, Anamika, was released in 1992, followed by popular Assamese albums like Maya, Zubeenor Gaan, Xabda, Pakhi, Shishu, and Jantra, which were loved by people of all ages.
