To manage the heavy rush of passengers expected during the upcoming Dussehra and Diwali festivals, South Central Railway (SCR) has introduced an innovative initiative—retro-reflective jackets with QR codes printed on the back.
Staff wearing these jackets will be deployed in high-footfall areas such as station concourses, entry and exit gates, and near ticket counters. Passengers can simply scan the QR code using the UTS mobile app or Rail One app to instantly purchase unreserved tickets, avoiding long queues at booking counters.

This ground-level initiative is designed to promote the UTS app and create awareness among passengers about its convenience and user-friendly features. Staff will also guide travellers on using the app, highlighting the benefits of cashless transactions and paperless ticketing.
The initiative has been rolled out at major stations across all six divisions of the Zone, including Secunderabad, Kacheguda, Vijayawada, Guntur, Guntakal, Tirupati, and Nanded.
“Since its launch, the UTS mobile application has gained steady popularity as a modern solution for unreserved ticketing. The app allows passengers to book journey tickets, platform tickets, and season tickets from anywhere, provided they are at least 5 meters away from station premises or railway tracks. This means that passengers can now purchase tickets from their homes before heading to the station, ensuring smooth travel during the festival rush of Dussehra and Diwali,” the Chief Public Relations Officer of SCR A Sridhar said.
He also stated that in line with the Digital India initiative, the UTS app supports multiple payment options, including R-Wallet, Paytm, UPI, and internet banking. To encourage digital transactions, passengers using R-Wallet also receive a 3% bonus on their ticket purchases.
By combining QR-enabled jackets with app-based ticketing, SCR is aiming to decongest ticket counters, promote digital transactions, and provide passengers with a faster and more convenient travel experience during the festive season.
