Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his recent visit to Assam, launched a sharp political campaign targeting key issues like infiltration, demography change, terrorism, and regional identity. Addressing a massive gathering in Darrang, Assam, PM Modi set the tone for upcoming assembly elections in Assam, Bihar, and West Bengal. Modi accused illegal infiltrators of changing border demographics and linked infiltration to rising crime against women. He promised to eliminate illegal immigration and pledged support for indigenous rights. The Prime Minister also promoted the use of Swadeshi (local products), urging citizens to boycott foreign goods. Criticizing Congress, Modi accused the party of encouraging infiltration and disrespecting Assamese cultural icon Bhupen Hazarika. Referring to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s remark on awarding Bharat Ratna to a singer, Modi defended his decision, stating that honoring Hazarika was a matter of national pride. The speech comes at a crucial time, as BJP aims for a third term in Assam in 2026 and is intensifying its push to win power in West Bengal and retain control in Bihar. Modi also addressed recent political controversies, asserting that while he can tolerate personal insults, he won’t accept disrespect towards national icons or regional pride.
