In a major development ahead of the Bihar elections, Delhi Police has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the Congress party and its IT cell over an alleged AI-generated deepfake video featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother. The FIR was filed at the North Avenue police station following a complaint lodged by the Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).According to the complaint, the controversial video was uploaded on September 10 through a website and social media handle linked to Bihar Congress. It allegedly portrayed PM Modi and his mother in a derogatory manner with the intent to tarnish their image, insult the dignity of a woman, and spread disharmony in society. The complaint further mentions that during a public meeting held in Darbhanga on August 27 and 28, objectionable remarks were also made against the Prime Minister and his mother.On the basis of the complaint, Delhi Police has invoked multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and initiated investigation. With the Bihar elections around the corner, this FIR is expected to escalate political tensions, adding to the Congress party’s growing challenges in the state.
