The Bengal Files wraps up first week under Rs 12 crore

'The Bengal Files' Box Office collection day 7: Vivek Agnihotri's film starring Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, wraps up first week under Rs 12 crore in India

‘The Bengal Files’, starring Mithun Chakraborty and Anupam Kher, and directed by Vivek Agnihotri has wrapped up its first week at the box office but the numbers have not been as strong as expected. The film earned just over Rs 11 crore in seven days, falling behind other new releases such as Tiger Shroff’s action drama ‘Baaghi 4’, Hollywood horror ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ and Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Madharasi’.

‘The Bengal Files’ day 7 box office collection

According to early estimates by Sacnilk, ‘The Bengal Files’ earned around Rs 1 crore net in India on its seventh day. This kept the film’s total domestic earnings at Rs 11.25 crore by the end of the week. Overseas collections stood at Rs 2.50 crore till Day 6.The film’s occupancy on Day 7 showed a modest pattern, with ‘The Bengal Files’ recording 16.98% Hindi occupancy on Thursday, 11 September, according to early numbers. Morning shows began with 8.70% occupancy, which increased to 15.99% in the afternoon. The numbers rose further in the evening with 20.11% occupancy, before closing the day on a stronger note at 23.11% during the night shows.

How the film has performed so far

The film had a mixed run through the week. It opened with Rs 1.75 crore on Friday, followed by Rs 2.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 2.75 crore on Sunday. Monday saw a sharp drop with just Rs 1.15 crore, but Tuesday rose slightly to Rs 1.35 crore. Wednesday’s earnings fell back to Rs 1 crore, and Thursday held steady at around Rs 1 crore.

‘The Bengal Files’ compared with Agnihotri’s earlier works

‘The Bengal Files’ is the third part of director Vivek Agnihotri’s spiritually linked trilogy. However, its numbers have not been able to match up to his earlier hits. ‘The Tashkent Files’ (2019) earned Rs 20 crore worldwide, while ‘The Kashmir Files’ (2022) became a blockbuster with Rs 341 crore globally. In comparison, ‘The Bengal Files’ is struggling. That said, it has already surpassed the lifetime collection of Agnihotri’s last release, ‘The Vaccine War’ (2023), which ended its run with Rs 10.33 crore at the domestic box office.

About ‘The Bengal Files’: Plot and Cast

The film revisits one of the darkest chapters in Bengal’s history, focusing on the 1946 Direct Action Day violence and the Noakhali riots. Alongside Mithun Chakraborty and Anupam Kher, the cast includes Pallavi Joshi, Saswata Chatterjee, Darshan Kumarr and Sourav Das in key roles. The makers are hopeful that the film may see a spike in numbers over the second weekend.DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers in this article are compiled from our proprietary sources and diverse public data.
