BREAKING: US Senate Passes Russia Sanctions Bill, India Faces 100% Tariff Threat

The US Senate has reportedly passed a tough bill targeting countries that continue buying Russian oil and energy products, by a vote of 86–11. The legislation would give President Donald Trump authority to impose tariffs of up to 100% on the top five countries importing Russian oil. India and China could be among the main countries affected, along with Turkey and potentially some Eastern European and Southeast Asian nations. The bill also proposes sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin’s military leadership, financial institutions, and Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet” of vessels. However, the legislation still needs approval from the US House of Representatives before it can become law. If enacted, the measure could significantly affect India-China trade with the US. India currently faces an 18% US tariff, while China faces 34%, according to the report. The proposed 100% tariff would therefore represent a major escalation and could put substantial economic pressure on countries continuing to purchase Russian energy.
