Disney’s live-action ‘Tangled’ has officially moved from script to set, and fans are getting their first real look at how the beloved fairy tale is being brought to life. Filming began in Girona, Spain on June 24, and a steady stream of set photos and videos has since given away key details about the film’s biggest moments, its costumes, and its cast.

According to Screen Rant, The first wave of set photos showed lead star Teagan Croft in a purple dress with puffy sleeves, a noticeable shift from Rapunzel’s signature pink outfit in the 2010 animated film. The corset on this version also skips the front-tie detailing longtime fans would remember from the original design. Since then, sharper close-up photos have surfaced, this time shared by fan account @TangledUpdates, showing Croft seated on set between takes. These particular images show her natural hair rather than the elaborate wig used for her actual scenes as Rapunzel. That wig, complete with the character’s trademark long blonde hair, has appeared in a separate set of photos and videos, including footage of it being intricately braided, a detail that ties directly into one of the film’s most anticipated scenes.

New footage from the Girona set has confirmed that one of the most loved sequences from the animated film is being recreated for the live-action version. The clips show children braiding Rapunzel’s hair on a stone staircase, weaving in flowers as a kingdom celebration takes shape around them. The scene appears to mirror the moment set to ‘When Will My Life Begin’ in the original film, when the children of Corona help style Rapunzel’s impossibly long hair after she steps outside her tower for the first time. Seeing this sequence recreated on a real set, with real extras and practical staging, has already become one of the most talked-about pieces of set footage to emerge from the production so far.

Alongside the Rapunzel material, fans have also caught their first partial glimpse of Kathryn Hahn in costume as Mother Gothel. The character, who keeps Rapunzel locked away in a tower while secretly using her hair to stay young, was originally voiced by Donna Murphy in the 2010 film.

The live-action ‘Tangled’ entered development in December 2024 but hit a reported pause in April 2025, following the commercial underperformance of ‘Snow White’.
