Sunny Deol is gearing up for the release of one of his most anticipated films this year. Ahead of its trailer launch, the 68-year-old actor shared an emotional note on his social media handle, dedicating the Partition drama, ‘Batwara 1947’ to his mother, Prakash Kaur and to mothers everywhere, calling her his greatest source of love, courage and strength. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan Productions, the Partition drama releases on August 14.

Sunny Deol’s heartfelt tribute to his mother

Taking to Instagram on Monday, Deol linked his personal tribute to the themes of the film, writing that his mother was his God, his love, his courage and his strength, and that he was dedicating Batwara 1947 to her and to every mother in the world. The note came a day ahead of the film’s trailer release on July 28, adding a personal, emotional layer to the film’s Partition-era narrative. The ‘Ikka’ actor wrote, “Meri maa hi mera Rab hain. Mera pyaar, mera hausla, meri taaqat. Batwara 1947 main apni Maa aur duniya ki har Maa ko samarpit karta hoon. Trailer out tomorrow! (sic)”

About ‘Batwara 1947’

Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit under Aamir Khan Productions, ‘Batwara 1947’ is set against the backdrop of India’s Partition and explores love, sacrifice and resilience amid one of history’s most painful chapters. The film marks Santoshi and Deol’s reunion after nearly three decades of working together.The film’s second teaser, released a month after the first glimpse, offered a glimpse of the unrest at the heart of the story, with Deol’s voiceover reflecting on the fear and death surrounding the events of Partition, and his character’s resolve to survive. The visuals depicted violence, displaced families and homes set ablaze as the events leading up to Partition unfolded, with Deol appearing in a resolute, fierce avatar.

Cast and release of ‘Batwara 1947’

Batwara 1947 features an ensemble cast including Shabana Azmi as Durgavati Devi (Mai), Sunny Deol as Sikander Mirza, Preity G Zinta as Hamida Begum, Karan Deol as Javed Mirza, Ali Fazal as Habib Anwar, and Abhimanyu Singh as Yakub Khan. The film has music by A.R. Rahman with lyrics by Javed Akhtar, and has been given an Adults Only certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification, with a runtime of 145 minutes and 34 seconds.The story is adapted from Syed Asghar Wajahat’s play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, and follows a Muslim family that migrates from Lucknow to Lahore after Partition, moving into a haveli already occupied by an elderly Hindu woman who refuses to leave the home she has lived in for decades.
