Jacob Elordi was locked in a coffin with a snake while filming ‘Euphoria’

Jacob Elordi recounted the extreme measures taken to film his character’s demise in ‘Euphoria’s’ final season, detailing an unexpectedly surreal experience involving confinement in a coffin with a live reptile for an extended period. The 29-year-old actor discussed his return to the series and the various challenging scenes creator Sam Levinson orchestrated for his character Nate’s exit.During his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Elordi joked about the demanding nature of his final episodes. “I think Sam brought me back to torture me,” he said to costar Colman Domingo, who was hosting duties for the evening. The actor described the entire experience as gruelling, recalling weeks of physical punishment. “It was like, six weeks of me just getting beat by a seven-foot guy,” he explained.

Jacob Elordi on the coffin and burial alive sequenceWhen discussing the most extreme sequence of his character’s death, Elordi provided vivid details about the filming process. His character Nate was buried alive and ultimately killed by a rattlesnake bite in the final episode, requiring Elordi to spend an extended period confined in an unusual space.

“I got locked in a coffin for two days straight with prosthetics and a fake tongue, and I couldn’t see out of my eyes. And then Sam put snakes into the coffin,” Elordi shared, describing the sensory deprivation and claustrophobia of the experience. Despite the seemingly nightmarish scenario, the actor revealed an unexpected attitude toward the ordeal.

Surprisingly, Elordi expressed comfort with the arrangement, even as he shared the confined space with a live boa constrictor playing the role of the rattlesnake in the final sequence. Rather than being threatened by the reptile, the actor found the experience oddly companionable.”He had a very nice personality. He was very docile and very sleepy. I don’t think he’d had a lot of sun,” Elordi recalled of the snake’s demeanour. “I was kind of nudging him, trying to get him to get active and do the scene, ’cause he was meant to be threatening. But he was like a little dog. He just kept curling up at my feet,” he added, describing the serpent’s reluctance to perform the threatening actions required for the scene. The actor elaborated on the snake’s movements during filming. “He’d drop down the tube, and then he’d sort of slither down, and then he’d find a little warm spot,” Elordi explained, painting a picture of a creature far more interested in comfort than in delivering a convincing performance as a deadly reptile.

Jacob Elordi’s surprisingly positive attitude toward the ordeal

Despite the various torturous situations his character faced throughout the final episodes, Elordi maintained that the experience was ultimately enjoyable. He rationalised his enthusiasm for the gruelling scenes with practical logic.”You don’t have any lines. So you just have to go like, ‘Ahhhhhh!’ That’s all you gotta do. It’s great,” he explained, highlighting the simplicity of performing a non-verbal death scene after the complexities of earlier seasons.

Jacob Elordi reveals the strangest fear he has

Despite enduring snakes and coffins on set, Elordi admitted that murky dishwater frightens him more than either, calling it one of his biggest fears.Image credit (Instagram)

Jacob Elordi’s unexpected fearsWhile Elordi demonstrated remarkable composure regarding snakes and coffins, he revealed three genuine sources of anxiety that have little to do with reptiles or confined spaces. “The dark, dying and—perhaps most shocking for the audience and Domingo—dish water,” he listed when asked about his fears. The actor elaborated extensively on his aversion to performing household chores involving dishwater. “You know when it gets like little bits of pulled chicken in there, a little bit of leftover lentil. It’s like lukewarm all the time. There’s nothing you can do about it. You get your fingers in there,” Elordi explained with visible distress at the mere thought. His visceral reaction to the concept prompted the hosting actor to question how dishwater could possibly be more frightening than sharing a coffin with a boa constrictor.Elordi’s reasoning, however, provided clarity on his phobia. “You don’t know what’s in that dishwater,” he stated, suggesting that the unknowable elements lurking in murky water represented a more genuine source of fear than any controlled filming scenario involving reptiles or elaborate prosthetics.’Euphoria’ is currently available to stream on HBO Max.
