Actors Gurfateh Pirzada, Pratibha Ranta, and Akasa Singh joined student protests in Mumbai, sharing solidarity posts on social media. Gurfateh went a step further, urging people to discuss the protest with the same enthusiasm as they would for the plot of ‘Dhurandhar 3’.

Gurfateh’s message on Delhi protests

As students took to the streets of New Delhi in protest on Monday, Gurfateh took to Instagram to voice his support, writing, “Jaago desh, jaago. Ek baar phir kranti aayi hai. (Indian flag and fist emojis).” (Wake up, country, wake up. Once again, the revolution is here.) He also used his stories to amplify posts from the protest, pointing out that the movement has now grown beyond just the Cockroach Janata Party or Sonam Wangchuk.

Gurfateh on Mumbai protest

On his Instagram stories, he made his stance clear, writing, “Honestly there’s only one right side. And YOU should be talking about it like it’s Dhurandhar 3.” On Monday, he also shared pictures and videos of the crowd that had gathered at Shivaji Park, Mumbai, for the protest. One picture showed that Pratibha Ranta and singer Akasa Singh were present at the demonstration as well.

Pratibha too shared pictures and videos from the Mumbai protest on her Instagram stories, including one clip showing students speaking out while waving copies of the Indian Constitution. Alongside her posts, she wrote, “Ab nahi toh kab! (If not now, then when!) Break the silence. Step out. Speak up.” She also reposted the monochrome pictures Gurfateh had shared of the two of them and Akasa at the protest.

Protests enter second day across Mumbai and other cities

Mumbai and several other cities are now witnessing the second day of protests, which began in New Delhi when the Cockroach Janata Party marched from Jantar Mantar to Parliament on the opening day of the Monsoon session. Meanwhile, Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike, was detained by the police on Saturday.

Police detain protesters gathered at Chaityabhoomi

According to PTI, police detained several protesters in central Mumbai on Monday. They had gathered at Chaityabhoomi, where B.R. Ambedkar was cremated, to support activist Sonam Wangchuk and the CJP’s Sansad Chalo march.

Protesters demand education minister’s resignation

Multiple locations across the city also witnessed protests calling for Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation, with demonstrations held near Chaityabhoomi at Shivaji Park.
