'Kya jugalbandi hai': AAP's swipe at BJP, Cong as Rahul Gandhi leads sit-in outside PM's residence over CJP protest

NEW DELHI: The AAP on Tuesday alleged a “jugalbandi” (partnership) between the BJP and Congress after the grand old party launched a sit-in outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence over alleged police brutality during the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) march to Parliament a day earlier.”This is amazing! CJP and Sonam Wangchuk: One month protest at Jantar Mantar. Modi govt refuses to talk to them. Rahul Gandhi: Allowed to protest outside PM residence. In one hour Modi Govt starts dialogue. Wah! Kya jugalbandi hai!” AAP leader and former Delhi chief minister Atishi said in a post on X. After Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi met injured protesters at RML Hospital, Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi himself, MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and party president Mallikarjun Kharge, among others, arrived outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, catching security personnel off guard. The Congress leaders refused to leave and demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah and education minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Rahul Gandhi also appealed to members of the public to join the sit-in.The Congress also declined an outreach attempt by Union minister Jitendra Singh, who arrived at the prime minister’s residence and urged the party to call off its sit-in.The CJP, an online satirical outfit formed in response to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant’s alleged “cockroaches” remark about a section of unemployed youth, has been protesting at Delhi’s designated protest site, Jantar Mantar, since June 21. The group is demanding the resignation or removal of Pradhan from the Cabinet over the NEET (UG) paper leak, the CBSE online marking controversy, and other related issues. The protest intensified after Delhi Police removed climate activist Sonam Wangchuk in an early morning operation on July 18. The Ladakh-based activist, who had been on a fast at the site since June 28, was taken to hospital amid concerns over his deteriorating health.
