Health minister JP Nadda, MoS Jitendra Singh meet Sonam Wangchuk at Medanta Hospital: Report

JP Nadda and minister of state for the Prime Minister’s Office, Dr Jitendra Singh met Sonam Wangchuk at Medanta hospital

NEW DELHI: Union minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, minister of state for the Prime Minister’s office Dr Jitendra Singh went to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram and met Activist Sonam Wangchuk to enquire about his health, as per PTI sources. This came after the Delhi high court on Tuesday ordered the immediate transfer of scientist and activist Sonam Wangchuk from Safdarjung Hospital to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram amid his prolonged hunger strike over the alleged NEET paper leak. The division bench directed that Wangchuk be treated by doctors at Medanta as per established medical protocol and said he must follow the medical advice of the treating team after his transfer. The order came after Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali Angmo, challenged a single judge’s decision refusing permission to shift him from Safdarjung Hospital.During the hearing, the Centre informed the high court that it had “no objection” to Wangchuk being shifted to Medanta Hospital. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, however, urged that Wangchuk “remain under continuous medical supervision” and “not be discharged except on the advice of Medanta’s doctors.” Wangchuk entered the 24th day of his hunger strike on Tuesday as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) stepped up its protest against the Centre over the alleged NEET paper leak and renewed its demand for Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. Protesters also continued their sit-in at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.
