Global urea prices ease after May spike, fall 40% in June

NEW DELHI: The rise in urea prices moderated last month, though it remained 45% higher than in June 2025. As per govt data, international urea prices were $572 per tonne last month, compared to $395 per tonne a year back.In a big relief to govt, urea prices fell to $572 per tonne in June, a 40% reduction compared to prices in May.Industry insiders said this was mainly due to a partial lifting of export restrictions by China and fading fears of prolonged war-induced supply disruptions. “India has a comfortable stock of urea for the current kharif season. We are keeping a close watch on developments in West Asia andits impact on the future supply chain,” a senior industry executive said.As per the fertiliser department’s monthly bulletin of June, prices of diammonium phosphate, potash, phosphoric acid were higher compared to last year. Sulphur saw the maximum rise, being priced at $1,050 per tonne, 265% higher than June 2025 prices. Ammonia prices were also 95% higher than last year.Data shows that domestic urea production in May and June this year was higher compared to the target, offering greater comfort to govt.
