Will Smith, the Academy Award-winning star, could be embroiled in the bitter litigation. His former friend, Bilaal Salaam, seeks the 57-year-old actor’s testimony against his own spouse, Jada Pinkett Smith. The legal saga dates back to December 2025, when he filed a USD 3 million claim. Amid the ongoing tension in the case, the actor’s former friend seeks to depose him. Here’s a closer look at Will Smith potentially being dragged into legal proceedings between Jada Pinkett Smith and Bilaal Salaam.

Will Smith could be summoned in Jada Pinkett Smith and Bilaal Salaam’s case

Bilaal Salaam, dubbed ‘Brother Bilaal,’ accused Jada Pinkett Smith of confronting him in the lobby of the Regency Calabasas Commons in September 2021 and of threatening him, per PEOPLE. The ‘Set It Off’ actress denied all the allegations and filed an anti-SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation) Act motion, seeking dismissal of parts of the lawsuit. In May, the 54-year-old actress secured a court order requiring him to pay USD 33,000 in legal fees. The new court documents show that Bilaal Salaam sent an email on July 7, 2026, to seek Will Smith’s presence in the deposition. However, Jada Pinkett Smith’s legal team asserted that “there is nothing to meet and confer about,” as the actor is not part of the litigation. Moreover, they affirmed that Smith has not received a subpoena for his testimony.

Jada Pinkett Smith’s lawyers allege Bilaal Salaam has insufficient evidence

Jada Pinkett Smith’s attorney criticised Bilaal Salaam’s untimely responses and called out his insufficient evidence. The legal team demanded that Will Smith’s former friend provide recorded communications with those he believed were involved in threatening him, along with medical records concerning the distress he famously claimed to have suffered within 10 days. “The recordings concern the very telephone calls on which [Salaam] bases his claims, and the medical records concern the injuries for which [Salaam] seeks at least $3 million in damages,” the new documents read. The next hearing for Jada Pinkett Smith and Bilaal Salaam’s case is scheduled for August 19, 2026. The court denied his request for a trial.Disclaimer: The information in this report is based on a legal hearing as reported by a third-party source.
