Kannada’s Challenging Star Darshan Thoogudeepa is being held in judicial custody at the Bengaluru Central Prison in Parappana Agrahara in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case after his bail was cancelled by the High Court in August. Recently, the actor’s request for a transfer to Ballari jail was turned down by the court.

Darshan on how he hasn’t seen sunlight in days

According to a report by the Indian Express, Darshan joined the legal proceedings through video conference before the 57th CCH court in Bengaluru. He broke down and expressed the toll prison life was taking on him. As per the report, the actor allegedly said, “I don’t want anything for anyone, please give me poison…”He also shared that it has been nearly a month since he had seen sunlight and mentioned his health concerns and the lack of basic comfort, that his hands are getting a fungal infection, making life there unbearable. The judge addressed him sternly and told him that he could not say things like that in court, to which Darshan complied and chose to be silent.

Court’s ruling

The court denied the transfer request, but gave him some comfort by allowing him movement inside the jail, his request to have extra bedding was granted, as per their own prison manual. This includes him being able to use extra pillows and bedsheets. The court also made a note that Darshan had not breach any of the prison rules, and therefore it didn’t see a necessity to move Darshan out of Bengaluru Central Prison.

Why was Darshan arrested?

For the unversed, Darshan was initially arrested on June 11, 2024, with actress Pavithra Gowda and 15 others, for their alleged involvement in the murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy, who worked at a medical shop in Chitradurga. He was later granted regular bail in December, which was later cancelled by the High Court.
