Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday distanced the party from former councillor Tahir Hussain after a Delhi court convicted him in the 2020 murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Ankit Sharma during the northeast Delhi riots.Responding to a post on X by BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya highlighting Hussain’s conviction, Kejriwal wrote, “We expelled him from AAP long long back. Didn’t he join one of chanda chor party’s sister organization?” BJP leaders question AAPKejriwal’s remarks came hours after Delhi law minister Kapil Mishra questioned the silence of the AAP leadership following Hussain’s conviction.Addressing a press conference, Mishra asked, “Why are Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh silent after the conviction? Why have they not come forward and said anything on the matter?” BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia, while addressing a press conference earlier today, also targeted Kejriwal. He said, “Even today, Arvind Kejriwal is protecting Tahir Hussain… AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan says that the Court order is unfortunate… Is this not vote bank politics?” He further adds, “An atmosphere was created by Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi that Muslims’ citizenship would be taken away because of this. Today, I will ask them how many Muslims in India have lost their citizenship? …”IB officer Ankit Sharma went missing after leaving his home during the communal violence in northeast Delhi. His body was later recovered from a drain near the Chand Bagh area. The riots, which broke out amid protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), claimed 53 lives and left hundreds injured.
