The Muzaffarnagar Police have started an investigation into a viral video showing a confrontation between Kanwar Yatra participants and police personnel at Shiv Chowk. The development comes after the incident gained attention following reports of an alleged threat made against a police officer during a heated argument. According to police officials, the City Superintendent of Police has been assigned to examine the viral footage and verify the sequence of events. The investigation will focus on identifying the individuals involved and determining whether any legal action is required based on the evidence. The controversy reportedly began when police personnel asked some Kanwar pilgrims to move down from a double-decker DJ vehicle due to safety concerns. Officials cited heavy rain conditions and the presence of high-tension electricity lines in the area as reasons for attempting to prevent a possible accident. The intervention allegedly led to an argument between some pilgrims and the police team. A video circulating on social media appears to show a person making aggressive remarks toward the station house officer, including a warning about removing the officer’s uniform. The incident reportedly caused tension at Shiv Chowk, where a group of Kanwar pilgrims gathered and protested for some time. Senior police officers later reached the spot and held discussions with the protesters, following which the situation was brought under control and the procession moved ahead. Police have stated that the viral video is being examined and further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry. The incident has also triggered political reactions, with opposition parties raising questions over law and order, while authorities have maintained that religious processions must continue peacefully while following safety guidelines.
