The internal dispute in Punjab Congress has escalated further as a major meeting between Congress state in-charge Bhupesh Baghel and the Charanjit Singh Channi faction is underway in Chandigarh. Around 50 leaders from the Channi camp have reportedly reached the meeting, where discussions are focused on the ongoing factional differences within the party. The meeting is being held at the residence of Congress MLA Rana Gurjit Singh. According to sources, Charanjit Singh Channi is expected to raise the demand for a meeting with the Congress high command after the discussion with Bhupesh Baghel. The latest development comes amid growing dissatisfaction following the announcement of the party’s new organisational structure in Punjab. The disagreement intensified after Channi was given responsibility as the chairman of the campaign committee, while Amarinder Singh Raja Warring continued as the Punjab Congress president. Supporters of Channi expressed dissatisfaction over the decision, leading to a visible divide within the state unit. The Congress high command has sent Bhupesh Baghel to Chandigarh in an effort to resolve the differences between the two factions. However, the presence of a large number of Channi supporters at the meeting indicates that the issue remains sensitive. Speaking before the meeting, Charanjit Singh Channi maintained that discussions would take place inside the room and hinted that the outcome would be seen after the talks. His remarks have added further political attention to the meeting, with leaders and workers closely watching whether the ongoing conflict can be resolved. The key focus now remains on whether Bhupesh Baghel succeeds in bringing both sides together or whether the leadership tussle within Punjab Congress continues ahead of future political battles.
