The ongoing internal conflict within Punjab Congress has intensified, with a crucial meeting scheduled in Chandigarh between the Charanjit Singh Channi faction and party state in-charge Bhupesh Baghel. The meeting is expected to focus on the growing differences within the state unit and demands raised by the Channi camp regarding the party leadership. The discussion is set to take place at the residence of MLA Rana Gurjit Singh, where several senior Congress leaders are expected to participate. Former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has reached the venue, while Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa is also expected to attend. However, Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring will not be present at the meeting. According to sources, the Channi faction had insisted that Raja Warring should not be part of the discussion. Several leaders from the group have been demanding a change in the Punjab Congress leadership, claiming that the party cannot achieve electoral success under the current state president. Bhupesh Baghel has already made it clear that the decision taken by the Congress high command regarding the state leadership will not be reversed. He reportedly stated that appointing a state Congress president is a serious organisational decision and not something that can be changed due to internal pressure. The latest meeting is being viewed as a final attempt by the Channi camp to raise its concerns before the central leadership. Sources suggest that discussions may also include the possibility of projecting Charanjit Singh Channi as the party’s chief ministerial face in the future.
