Divya wasn’t allowed to act after marriage with Bhushan Kumar

Divya Khossla Kumar reveals she wasn't allowed to act after marriage with Bhushan Kumar, learnt direction: 'My mother pushed me to...'

Divya Khossla Kumar revealed that her marriage to T-Series head Bhushan Kumar led her to shift from acting to directing. After her family didn’t support her acting post-marriage, she learned cinematography and editing. She directed a successful music video for Sonu Nigam’s father. They married in 2005 at Vaishno Devi Temple and welcomed their son, Ruhaan, in 2011.

Before stepping into direction, Divya Khossla Kumar had to put her acting dreams on hold. Recently, she opened up about how her marriage to T-Series head Bhushan Kumar changed the course of her career and led her to discover a passion for directing.

Discovering her creative side

On Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiya’s podcast, Divya said she had been creative since she was young. However, her acting career was put on hold after she married Bhushan Kumar, owner of T-Series, before her film Ab Tumhare Hawale released. Since her family didn’t support her acting after marriage, she decided to focus on directing instead. She further shared that after stepping away from acting, she began learning cinematography and editing while she was still quite young. She put her creativity to work and eventually directed her first music video, which became a big hit and was for Sonu Nigam’s father.

Keeping it professional on set

While shooting her first film, Bhushan was clearly interested in Divya, but she kept her distance and stayed professional. He later tried to text her, but Divya didn’t respond much, partly because of his public image.

Meeting the family and falling in love

Bhushan invited Divya and her family to his sister’s wedding in Delhi, where her parents met him and were impressed by his humble nature despite his success. With her mother’s encouragement and her own growing feelings for him, Divya agreed, and they got married.Divya tied the knot with Bhushan at just 21, on February 13, 2005, at the Vaishno Devi Temple in Jammu. The couple welcomed their first child, Ruhaan, in 2011.
