Seeman slams Jr NTR–Trivikram film’s producer over Murugan identity

'Do not interfere with symbols that represent the pride and identity of Tamils': NTK Chief Seeman issues warning to Jr NTR and Naga Vamsi over controversial Lord Murugan tagline 'born in the North' row

The upcoming collaboration between Jr NTR and director Trivikram Srinivas has found itself at the centre of a controversy even before production begins. The debate started after producer Naga Vamsi’s announcement post reportedly described Lord Murugan in a way that many felt conflicted with long-held Tamil cultural beliefs. The reference quickly drew criticism on social media, with several voices questioning the description. The latest to react is Naam Tamilar Katchi chief coordinator Seeman, who issued a strong statement condemning the portrayal.

Seeman objects to Murugan’s portrayal

In his statement, Seeman said the makers should immediately reconsider the reference used in the announcement. Stressing Murugan’s importance in Tamil culture, as reported by Cinema Vikatan, he said, “The Tamil saying, ‘Wherever there is a hill, there is Kumaran,’ itself reflects the deep connection between Lord Murugan and Tamil Nadu. The six abodes of Murugan and countless hill temples across the state stand as proof of this heritage.” He further added, “Tamil and Tamils have always had the strength to establish the truth that Murugan is a unique deity closely associated with the Tamil people.” According to Seeman, altering this identity for creative or commercial reasons is unacceptable.

Seeman issues a warning to the film’s team

Seeman also urged the makers not to proceed with what he described as a distorted narrative. “For commercial gains, do not interfere with symbols that represent the pride and identity of Tamils. We will not remain silent anymore,” he said. He further warned, “The film team must immediately drop attempts to create fictional stories claiming that Murugan was born in the North and present them as art. Otherwise, they will have to face serious consequences.” His comments have further ignited the debate over the project, with supporters and critics taking different stands across social media platforms.

Seeman calls for action if the controversy continues

Taking his criticism a step further, Seeman appealed to theatre owners and the Tamil Nadu government to intervene if the alleged concept remains unchanged. “If the film is released with the same narrative despite widespread opposition, theatre owners in Tamil Nadu should come together and refuse to screen it,” he said. He also added, “If that does not happen, Naam Tamilar Katchi will launch a major protest to prevent the film from being screened in the state.” Seeman concluded by urging the government not to permit the release of either the Tamil or Telugu version of the film if it hurts Tamil sentiments. While the makers of the Jr NTR–Trivikram project have not officially responded to the criticism, Seeman’s statement has added another layer of attention to one of Telugu cinema’s most anticipated films.
