The Portuguese brand of safety footwear and workwear, ToWorkFor, based in Guimarães, has just taken the runway at Milan Fashion Week during the show by London based designer and choreographer Saul Nash, a former dancer who has become known for blending fashion, dance, and performance into a unique take on contemporary menswear. The model from the British brand of the same name was developed in partnership with the Portuguese company, as part of the Spring/Summer 2027 collection, according to APICCAPS / AICEP, which adds that it was presented at the STANCE fashion show at the Forza e Coraggio venue, one of the oldest sports clubs in Italy’s fashion capital.

Saul Nash also applied this creative approach- rooted in the artistic movement and the fusion of sportswear and tailoring- to footwear, “reinterpreting the classic boat shoe,” the article states, noting that the model is 100% Made in Portugal, combining “a knit and suede upper with a drawstring-inspired lacing system,” which embodies “the convergence of the designer’s creative vision and the savoir-faire of the Portuguese industry.”

According to Saul Nash: “I’m drawn to the quality and craftsmanship of Portuguese footwear. I was truly surprised to discover that even shoes designed for work and safety have hand-stitched uppers,” he notes.

“Working with ToWorkFor was particularly interesting. The brand is best known for safety and protective footwear, designed for demanding work environments,” he continues. “It was very stimulating to take one of their classic silhouettes and reinterpret it using lightweight materials and a design language that embodies our brand’s DNA.”

According to Cláudia Pinto, Director of Communications at APICCAPS: “These collaborations reflect APICCAPS’ commitment to supporting designers through excellence in manufacturing capabilities, while also highlighting the quality, versatility, and innovative capacity of the Portuguese footwear industry.”

“The materials used in the collections were developed as part of the BioShoes4All project, reinforcing the association’s commitment to research, innovation, and the development of more sustainable solutions for the sector. The close collaboration established with designers throughout the entire creative and development process for the collections makes it possible to transform distinctive designs into high-quality products, designed to meet market demands and stand the test of time.”

It should be noted that the Portuguese footwear industry exports more than 90% of its production and is internationally recognised for its precision, innovation, and artisanal heritage, he concludes.
