Mandisa Glover, the daughter of legendary actor and activist Danny Glover, has spoken openly about noticing the first signs of her father’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis. The 50-year-old, Danny Glover’s only child with his first wife, shared her observations about daily life as she helps care for the 79-year-old star known for his roles in ‘Lethal Weapon’ and ‘The Color Purple’.According to PEOPLE magazine, Danny Glover opened up for the first time about his life with Alzheimer’s during an interview, often toggling between unfinished thoughts and poetic personal reflections. However, there are also moments when he speaks with clarity and lucidity about his experiences.
Mandisa Glover’s notes on her father’s memory changes
Mandisa remembered when she first noticed a change in her father’s behaviour. The observation came in 2022, the same year he received a prestigious humanitarian honour from the Academy Awards for his lifelong dedication to charitable work and activism. “The history of my dad is that he remembers every single thing back to 1970, what corner he was standing on, who he spoke to, what they spoke about, what colour they were wearing, everything,” she explained. That remarkable memory began to change in noticeable ways. “He’d tell you so much about his parents—and I’ve heard those stories over and over—and pieces were missing. There would be pieces of the story missing. I said, ‘I wonder what’s going on,'” Mandisa said, describing how she began to recognise something was amiss.
Danny Glover’s perspective on his diagnosis
Danny Glover himself spoke about his experience living with the condition. “I’m still not accepting in my mind all parts of it,” the acclaimed actor said of his diagnosis. He reflected on the complexity of his situation, noting moments of clarity mixed with periods of confusion. “There are the moments that you keep remembering that validate the fact that you can remember stuff. And there are moments I’ll never forget,” he stated.
