Sonakshi Sinha on prioritizing life over uninspiring scripts

‘I am very happy in my own life and my own little bubble’: After the success of ‘System’, Sonakshi Sinha on prioritizing life over uninspiring scripts

Sonakshi Sinha has reached a stage in her career where personal fulfilment matters more than constantly chasing projects. Fresh from the appreciation she has received for ‘System’, the actor says she is now choosing roles that excite her creatively rather than taking on films for external validation. Looking back at her journey, Sonakshi admitted that she is in no rush, adding that she is perfectly happy with life even if the right scripts take time to arrive.

Choosing meaningful roles has become the priority

Over the last few years, Sonakshi has consciously gravitated towards characters with greater emotional depth. Whether portraying a fearless police officer in ‘Dahaad’, a courtesan in ‘Heeramandi’, or a lawyer in Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s ‘System’, the actor believes her choices now reflect her own growth. In an interview with HT City, when asked whether the shift towards stronger female-led stories was intentional, Sonakshi replied, “Hundred percent. I think it’s only getting better and better with every project that I’m choosing because it’s now just boiling down to what gives me happiness and satisfaction as an actor. There have been so many projects throughout my career and it’s been a fantastic journey. I don’t regret anything. There have been times when you’ve done a film to please others or for many different reasons.”

Sonakshi says she no longer feels pressured to keep working

The actor explained that her outlook on work has changed significantly over the years. Instead of signing projects simply to stay busy, she now waits for stories that genuinely resonate with her. If those opportunities don’t come immediately, she is comfortable taking a step back and enjoying her personal life.Sharing her perspective, Sonakshi said, “I am in a place in my life where I am doing it just for myself, just doing what makes me happy. Otherwise, I have a very fulfilling life to live. If I don’t get the kind of work that I want to do, I am very happy in my own life and my own little bubble.”

‘System’ has become one of her most rewarding experiences

Sonakshi’s latest project, ‘System’, recently premiered on a streaming platform and has received positive responses from viewers. The actor couldn’t hide her excitement while speaking about collaborating with director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and co-stars Jyotika and Ashutosh Gowariker.Expressing her gratitude, she shared, “I am so happy for the entire team. It just feels amazing being a part of something so amazing. I keep telling Ashwiny also, that we have done something that we can be so proud of. I am so happy to have shared it with her, with Jyotika, with Ashutosh. It’s been a fantastic journey.”

The comparison with Meryl Streep and Kate Winslet left her surprised

During the promotions of ‘System’, director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari compared Sonakshi to Hollywood legends Meryl Streep and Kate Winslet, a compliment that left the actor both amused and humbled.Recalling her reaction, Sonakshi said, “I called her and exclaimed, ‘You have put so much pressure on me!’ But obviously, it feels amazing when your directors think that. Especially when you’re not trying to be someone, yet you are compared to someone you adore and admire so much. Both these actresses are phenomenal. For my director to call me that, I am happy.”

Sonakshi’s summer fashion staples

Away from work, Sonakshi revealed that the scorching weather has completely transformed her wardrobe. Once known for favouring darker shades, she now prefers breathable fabrics and lighter colours to beat the heat.Talking about her style choices, she said, “Linens, cotton shirts, loose-fitting clothing. I think in this summer season especially, it’s a requirement. It’s a necessity more than anything else. And even my colour choices have changed because of this kind of heat and weather. I always used to wear black. Now I am tilting towards the pastels, and the blues and the whites are all coming out of my closet. I used to wear black a lot, but I think in this weather you can’t. I have been forced to change.”With ‘System’ earning praise and her approach to choosing projects becoming increasingly selective, Sonakshi Sinha appears content focusing on quality over quantity while waiting for roles that truly challenge and inspire her.
