‘Angikaaram’ X review: Netizens praise KJR’s performance; Prabhudeva says, ‘What a movie!’

‘Angikaaram’ hit theatres worldwide on June 26, introducing audiences to a sports courtroom drama inspired by real-life events. Directed by Thenpathiyan, the film features Kotapadi J. Rajesh (KJR) in the lead role alongside Mansoor Ali Khan and Rangaraj Pandey.Soon after the first shows, viewers began sharing their reactions on X (formerly Twitter).

Film follows an athlete’s fight for justice

The story centres on Aathiran, a talented runner from a Chennai slum who earns an opportunity to represent India at the Commonwealth Games. However, his selection is allegedly cancelled after powerful individuals interfere in the process. The setback pushes Aathiran into a legal battle against a minister portrayed by Mansoor Ali Khan. The film explores corruption within the sports system.

Netizens praise KJR’s debut performance

One viewer shared a detailed review on X, writing, “#Angikaaram REVIEW !! Angikaaram is a solid sports and courtroom drama about an underprivileged athlete fighting a legal battle to represent India. The film does a great job of exposing the broken system and unfair rules within our sports governing bodies. KJR makes a fantastic acting debut, showing off an impressive physical transformation to play the lead role. He is backed up perfectly by Vasundhara Kashyap, who gives excellent support as his dedicated coach.”

The review added, “In the second half, the story shifts into a quiet courtroom battle. It smartly points out how officials often rely too much on basic numbers and tests, ignoring the real, raw talent found at the local level. While it offers a thoughtful look at the problems in sports management, the movie mostly explains these issues through spoken dialogue rather than showing them naturally in the story. Still, it remains a touching film about a player’s quiet fight for a fair chance against an uncaring system. DECENT One.”
