Vindu Dara Singh has opened up about his former marriage to actor and Tabu’s sister, Farah Naaz, admitting that his father, wrestling legend Dara Singh, had cautioned him about the challenges of an interfaith marriage.Speaking to Kadak, Vindu reflected on a piece of advice from his father that he chose not to follow. While stressing that he has no regrets because the marriage gave him his son Fateh, the actor said Dara Singh’s concerns eventually proved to be correct.
‘My father told me Hindu-Muslim marriages are very hard’
Recalling the conversation, Vindu said his father was generally someone who believed in religious harmony and never discriminated between communities.”We are among those people who believe that Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian — everyone is a brother. That was always my father’s saying,” Vindu shared.However, when he expressed his desire to marry Farah Naaz, Dara Singh reportedly offered a word of caution.”He told me, ‘Vindu, there is one more thing. Hindu-Muslim marriages are very hard.'”The actor recalled being confident that things would work out.”When I told him I wanted to marry Farah, he said, ‘It is very hard, Vindu. In the end, things often go wrong.’ I told him, ‘Dad, nothing will go wrong.’ He said, ‘Think carefully. These things become difficult in the end.'”
‘I don’t regret it because I have Fateh’
Looking back, Vindu admitted that his father had a point, though he stressed that he does not regret his decision.”I don’t regret it because I have Fateh, a fantastic son whom I love more than my life. But that was right.”The actor used the experience to underline the importance of listening to one’s parents.”Always remember that parents give us advice, but we don’t listen. We think, ‘What do they know?’ But they know more than us. They have more experience and they are your Gods.”He added, “We think we are very smart and know everything. But when they stop you or warn you, that is often a signal from God. Listen to them.”
‘Religion was absolutely a reason’
When asked whether religion played a major role in the breakdown of his marriage with Farah Naaz, Vindu gave a straightforward response.”Absolutely. Absolutely.”The actor explained that religion was never initially a point of conflict between them.”Religion was completely normal between us. But suddenly she became very religious.”According to Vindu, the shift created differences that were difficult to navigate.”We never had that highly religious system between us. So when suddenly you become very religious, complications happen. That is, according to me, the main reason.”
Dara Singh’s message of religious unity
Interestingly, despite his warning about interfaith marriages, Vindu said his father remained a strong believer in religious unity throughout his life.He recalled a poem Dara Singh wrote before his passing, which celebrated harmony among different faiths.”Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian — all are brothers,” Vindu quoted from the poem.The actor said the poem emphasized that while different spiritual leaders may show different paths, they all ultimately lead to the same destination.
‘We are all one’
Vindu concluded by reiterating the values he inherited from his father.”We are all one.”Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan, he added, “As Modi ji says, ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.’ Never try to divide us, never try to break us. We are all one and we will remain one.”Vindu and Farah Naaz married in 1996 and later parted ways. The former couple share a son, Fateh Randhawa.
