Chidambaram’s ‘Balan: The Boy’ entered its first weekday at the box office after posting good numbers during its opening weekend. However, like many recent releases, the film witnessed a big decline in collections on Monday as weekday trends began to take effect.

Day 4 collections fall by 60.3 percent

According to Sacnilk, ‘Balan: The Boy’ collected Rs 1.15 crore net in India on Day 4. The latest figure represents a 60.3 percent drop from Sunday’s net collection of Rs 2.90 crore. The film was screened across 1,143 shows on Monday. The Malayalam version collected Rs 1.12 crore and recorded an occupancy of 27 percent. The Tamil version contributed Rs 1 lakh with 10 percent occupancy, while the Telugu version added Rs 2 lakhs with 17 percent occupancy.

Occupancy remains stronger during evening shows

The film recorded an overall Malayalam occupancy of 24.17 percent on Monday. Morning shows registered 9.67 percent occupancy. Afternoon shows improved to 20.58 percent. Evening shows climbed further to 25.17 percent, while night shows posted the highest attendance of the day at 32.58 percent. With four days completed, ‘Balan: The Boy’ has accumulated Rs 8.22 crore in India net collections. The film’s India gross collection now stands at Rs 9.53 crore. International markets have played a major role in the film’s overall performance. On Day 4, the film collected Rs 70 lakhs gross overseas. That takes its total overseas gross collection to Rs 8.00 crore. The worldwide gross collection has now reached Rs 17.53 crore.Kerala remained the film’s biggest market on Day 4, contributing Rs 1.10 crore gross. Karnataka added Rs 12 lakhs while Tamil Nadu contributed Rs 5 lakhs. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana generated Rs 3 lakhs with the rest of India adding Rs 2 lakhs.ETimes awarded the movie three stars and noted, “While the film has its share of taut moments, the emotions remain surprisingly muted. Particularly in the climax, although the resolution is interesting, the lack of a stronger emotional build-up prevents it from reaching its full potential. The right emotional beats could have lifted the film to another plane, but the ending feels somewhat underwhelming.”DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers and the data in this article are compiled from public and industry sources.
