Pooja recalls how her mother was pressured to abort her

'Mummy ke liye to jitna bolu utna kam hi hoga': ‘Commando’ actress Pooja Chopra breaks down recalling how her mother was pressured to abort her because she was a girl

Pooja Chopra got emotional on ‘Tum Ho Naa’, revealing her father pressured her mother to abort her as she was a girl. Her mother refused, left the marriage and raised Pooja and her sister alone. “Aaj main zinda hoon,” said Pooja, calling her mother her biggest superstar.

Pooja Chopra, best known for ‘Commando: A One Man Army’, got deeply emotional during her appearance on the TV show. She opened up about her mother’s unwavering support throughout her life and expressed heartfelt gratitude for her mother choosing to bring her into the world. The actress had earlier shared the painful truth: her father pressured her mother to abort her when she was merely 20 days old, solely because she was a girl.

Pooja Chopra says her mother stepped up when no one else would

When asked what her mother means to her on ‘Tum Ho Naa’, Pooja Chopra couldn’t hold back her emotions. “Mummy ke liye to jitna bolu utna kam hi hoga na especially mere liye,”(No amount of words would be enough to describe what Mom means to me—especially to me. ) she said. She went on to speak about how her mother stepped up when nobody else would, moving everyone in the room to tears. “Meri mummy ne to wo zimmedari nibhayi jo kisi aur ne nahi nibhayi, aur utne pyar aur utne himmat se”(My mother shouldered a responsibility that no one else did—and she did so with such love and courage. ), she added. Pooja also spoke warmly about how her mother never once made her feel lesser than a boy and always pushed her to believe in herself. “Mummy ne mujhe kabhi ye nahi mehsoos hone diya ki main koi ladke se kam hoon. Aur hamesha se ye vishwas dilaya ki main jo banna chahti hoon ban sakti hoon”(Mom never made me feel like I was any less than a boy, and she always instilled in me the belief that I could become whatever I wanted to be. ), she said.

Pooja Chopra calls her mother the biggest superstar

While the world sees Pooja Chopra as a former beauty pageant contestant and a successful actress, she credits every bit of her success to her mother. Host Rajeev echoed the same sentiment, telling her that she is who she is today because of her mother. Overcome with emotion, Pooja replied, “Aaj main jo hoon hi nahi Rajeev, aaj main zinda hoon..” (I am not who I used to be, Rajiv; today, I am truly alive…) She then turned to both the audience and Rajeev, asking who could ever be a bigger superstar than her mother.

Pooja Chopra’s mother defied all odds to raise her daughters alone

Reportedly, Pooja Chopra has been open about the fact that her father left the family because he could not accept having daughters and desperately wanted a son. She has also revealed that her mother was under a lot of pressure to abort her when it became known that she was expecting a girl. Her mother, however, refused to give in and chose to have the baby despite everything. She also made the difficult decision to walk away from the marriage and took it upon herself to raise both Pooja and her elder sister alone. Go to Source
