Indian man jailed in UK for 6 years over rape; Police hunt two suspects who fled Britain

Nitesh Nitesh jailed for 6 years over rape.

An Indian man has been jailed for six years after admitting to raping a woman in Bristol city centre, while police continue efforts to trace two other suspects who have been charged in connection with the same incident.Nitesh Nitesh, 20, was sentenced after pleading guilty to rape over an attack on a woman in her 30s in Assembly Rooms Lane during the early hours of March 29, Daily Mail reported. The victim was assaulted at around 3.18am before being helped by members of the public, who alerted police. Officers from Avon and Somerset Police arrived at the scene within minutes.Investigators later identified Nitesh after releasing images of four men they believed were linked to the attack. He was arrested and subsequently admitted to the offence in court. The court heard the assault had a devastating impact on the victim’s mental health. In a statement read in court, she said: “Although I am starting to do very well, I do not want to think about it as it sends me back to that place.”She added, “What kept me engaged with the investigation is also the thought that this could’ve happened to someone else, someone more vulnerable, or a young teenage girl.” The Crown Prosecution Service has authorized charges against two other men in relation to the same incident. Police said both suspects are believed to have left the UK, and enquiries to locate them are ongoing.Detective Inspector Simon Da Costa described Nitesh as a “dangerous sexual predator” and said the victim had shown considerable courage throughout the investigation.”This crime has impacted the victim physically, emotionally and mentally in a way that is impossible to adequately explain,” he said.Da Costa added that her support for the investigation had been driven by a desire to protect others from suffering similar harm.Police said they remain committed to tracing the outstanding suspects and bringing them before the courts.
