Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has sharply criticized the law and order situation in the state before 2017, claiming that riots were frequent and public safety was severely compromised under previous governments. Addressing a public event, he alleged that Uttar Pradesh witnessed an average of one riot every two or three days, with curfews often lasting for months and disturbances regularly occurring ahead of festivals. Yogi also asserted that even police officers were not safe during that period and said the public’s perception of both the police force and the state’s governance had suffered significantly. In contrast, he claimed that since his government assumed office in 2017, strict action against rioters and criminals has transformed the law and order situation, making the state safer for its residents. The remarks amounted to a direct political attack on earlier administrations, with the Chief Minister presenting his government’s policies as responsible for restoring security, stability, and public confidence across Uttar Pradesh.
